Making a '100 plus things to do list' is a great way to help you clarify what you really want out of life and help you begin setting both short term and long term goals.
Here are some guidelines and questions to help you begin making your own list:
- Set some time aside for yourself, twenty to thirty minutes.
- Begin by free-flow writing, without stopping until you have a hundred things on your list that you want to be, have or do.
- Don't sensor your thoughts or feelings; use as much or as little description as you want while writing.
- When you have a list of one hundred you can use these questions to help clarify your goals:
- What categories do the majority of your goals fall into, being, having or doing? You can also use categories like: self, financial, work & career, health & wellness, family & relationships, community/charity, etc.
- Are your life goals evenly distributed across categories?
- What did this exercise reveal to you?
- Can you break your goals down into short term and long term goals?
- Can you break your short term goals down into years, months, weeks or days?
- Are some goals, once achieved complete, or will they become a part of your everyday existence?
- Review your list at the end of every year (or when you normally do your 'year in review') and check off the things you have accomplished, add new ones and remove things that no longer 'fit' the life you are building.
